Professional experience
Joi has been passionate about animals her entire life, and her professional path started in veterinary medicine before it moved into training. Working as a veterinary technician, she realised her actual calling was behavioural work, and in 2017 she moved into dog training properly and has not looked back. That veterinary grounding continues to serve her, because it gives her a working understanding of the physical factors that can sit underneath a behavioural presentation. Her qualifications are substantial and include graduating from the PCo. Positive Dog Training Certification Program and a Dog Training Instructor Program, holding Therapy Dog Training and Handling certification, and serving as an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. With years of experience and thousands of dogs and owners trained, she has seen repeatedly what positive, balanced training can build between a dog and its family. Her conviction is that every dog can learn and thrive when given clear guidance, patience and the right tools, and her approach is built on trust and communication.
A little bit about me
At home Joi shares her life with Khal Doggo, known as Cowboy, a Leopard Catahoula and border collie mix who is far more than a pet. Cowboy works as her demonstration dog, assists with socialising other dogs, and has a genuinely remarkable skill set. He responds to five different languages, opens doors, and operates light switches among other things. Joi describes him as the coolest coworker anyone could ask for, and he gives clients something valuable, which is a live demonstration of what patient, well structured training can actually produce. Her focus is on helping owners build stronger and more rewarding relationships with their dogs, and she approaches each new client as the start of a shared project rather than a transaction.
