Professional experience
Cass describes herself, cheerfully, as a total dogaholic, and she has spent seven years working professionally as a trainer. Her focus is on helping people genuinely understand their dogs through body language, behaviour and energy, which is a more fundamental starting point than command training and tends to produce more durable results. Her conviction is that when owners learn how dogs actually communicate and what they actually need, the whole relationship changes, and most of the problems that brought them to a trainer start to resolve. Over seven years she has worked with a wide variety of dogs, including companion animals, therapy dogs and service dogs, which is a considerable range and demands quite different skills at each end. Therapy and service work in particular require a dog to be reliable in unpredictable public environments, and a trainer capable of producing that standard brings valuable precision to ordinary household training.
A little bit about me
Cass's stated mission is building happy, respectful bonds between people and their dogs, and the word respectful is doing real work in that sentence. She is not aiming for obedience achieved through pressure, she is aiming for a relationship in which both parties understand and accommodate one another. Across her career she has taken genuine joy in the variety of dogs she has trained, from family companions through to therapy and service animals, and she is clear that watching a dog thrive and knowing she contributed to it is the best part of the job. That enthusiasm is infectious and tends to put nervous owners at ease quickly.
