Professional experience
Shelby has been training dogs for over six years, and before that she worked at her local SPCA caring for animals of every kind. That shelter grounding gives her a particular understanding of dogs who arrive with unknown histories or who have not had the easiest start, and it is experience that continues to inform her work with client dogs today. She graduated with an animal behaviour degree from Penn Foster and has been applying that formal training ever since, which means her practical work is underpinned by a proper theoretical understanding of how dogs learn rather than technique picked up piecemeal. Her specialisms cover basic and adolescent training, advanced work and rehabilitation, and she has been building relationships between owners and dogs for clients throughout Maryland since 2021. For families dealing with a dog whose behaviour has become genuinely difficult, Shelby brings both the credentials and the shelter experience to approach it calmly and methodically.
A little bit about me
Working with dogs is unambiguously Shelby's greatest passion, and she has been doing it in one form or another since she was sixteen, when she started volunteering at her local animal shelter. That gives her close to a decade of continuous involvement with dogs, much of it with animals who needed the most help. What she enjoys most is building and guiding both owner and dog into the strongest team they can become, and she is clear that the partnership is the point rather than the dog's individual performance. Her approach is patient and encouraging, shaped by years of working with animals whose trust had to be earned rather than assumed. Shelby is genuinely enthusiastic about taking on new clients and their dogs, and families tend to find her warmth makes the process considerably less daunting than they expected.
