April

Professional experience

April has been working with dogs since 2015, and the breadth of that experience is unusual. Her background spans boarding, animal husbandry and breeding, through to handling local law enforcement K9s, and includes narcotics detection training and handling alongside pet dog obedience work with a particular emphasis on rehabilitation programs. She is comfortable with dogs of every breed, age and temperament, which is a claim many trainers make and fewer can genuinely support. Her credentials reflect a deliberate commitment to formal development rather than experience alone. She qualified as a Narcotics Detection K9 Handler and Trainer through the American K9 Interdiction Training Academy in October 2023, completed an apprenticeship with Next-Door K9 Solutions of Eastern Virginia across 2024, became an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator in April 2024, and graduated NePoPo Silver School in March 2025. For owners with a dog that needs rehabilitation rather than simple obedience, April offers a rare combination of operational handling experience and current, structured qualifications.

A little bit about me

April's starting point with every dog is straightforward, which is that the animal's wellbeing matters more than anything else in the process. She describes her role as being the olive branch between an owner and their dog, the person who helps the two of them find a communication toolkit that finally works for both. That framing tells you a great deal about how she operates. She is not interested in imposing a system, she is interested in finding the specific approach that suits the dog in front of her and the person holding the lead. Her aim while a dog is in her care is to build success for both ends of the relationship using methods chosen for that particular pairing. She takes the view that living a balanced, harmonious life alongside a dog is one of the genuine pleasures available to people, and she intends to get every client there.
